The human body has an incredible capacity to rejuvenate itself. The first step on the journey to good health is to decide that you want to be healthy. When we make this decision we can follow very simple ways to be healthy and happy.

1.     Be always positive

Negative thinking produces stress. And stress can promote all sorts of illnesses such as headaches, indigestion, ulcers, nervousness and tension. Remove conflict, fear and anxiety. These are an unnecessary burden in our pursuit for a healthy life. Be positive; believe in you and in God. God will always be there for you.

2.     Breathe!

Breathe! Breathe! Breathe! Try to have good ventilation and natural lighting at home and in the workplace. Spend time outdoors to breathe fresh air and take in sunshine. Go to the beach if you can.  Your color and your energy level will improve.

3.     Drink plenty of Water. Eat Healthy!

We are what we eat. Many of our modern day diseases are definite due to an incorrect diet. The rule of thumb for good food is – go natural. As much as possible, stay away from highly processed foods. Minimize your fat, salt and sugar intake. Try to cook your own meals, selecting fresh ingredients. You save money and gather nutrition benefits. Drink plenty of water. Water helps remove poisons from your body.

4.     Exercise & Detoxify!

A regular exercise program, such as vigorous walking, swimming, workouts with weighs, can do wonders to our physical condition. Exercise will increase our intake of oxygen, improve the efficiency of our heart and lungs and promote better blood circulation.

Strive for daily elimination! Eating fiber rich foods will help facilitate daily bowel movements and avoid constipation. Detoxification of the body refers to the cleansing of the bowels, kidneys, lungs, the liver or the blood, since these are the organs involved in detoxification of chemicals and toxins from the body. The liver acts as an "in-line" filter for the removal of foreign substances and wastes from the blood. The kidneys filter wastes from the blood into the urine, while the lungs remove volatile gases as we breathe.

Some detoxification programs work only with the bowels, others may cleanse the liver or the blood, and others may aid the kidneys or the skin in their functions. By combining these detox programs into a total health program, one can effectively restore their health to an optimal level and look younger in the process.

5.     Rest and Sleep

Our bodies need time to rest in order to repair cells and tissues, to restore our energy levels and for general recuperation. Brief periods of rest at various times of the day will also revitalize you.

6.     Meditate & Pray

Our stress and tiredness make us unhappy, impatient and frustrated. It can even affect our health. We are often so busy we feel there is no time to stop and meditate! But meditation actually gives us more time by making our mind calmer and more focused. A simple ten or fifteen minute breathing meditation can help us overcome our stress and find some inner peace and balance.

Pray  at least once a day!  Prayer is directed to God -- acknowledging not only God's existence, but also a relationship and even a certain degree of trust.

Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will direct your paths.     (Proverbs 3: 5-6)

The Serenity Prayer

God grant me the serenity

to accept the things I cannot change;

courage to change the things I can;

and wisdom to know the difference.

Living one day at a time;

Enjoying one moment at a time;

Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace;

Taking, as He did, this sinful world

as it is, not as I would have it;

Trusting that He will make all things right

if I surrender to His Will;

That I may be reasonably happy in this life

and supremely happy with Him

Forever in the next

--Reinhold Niebuhr

“We can find happiness in our life by accepting our past and planning for our future. By doing so, we open the door to mindfulness, or living the moment. Living in the moment requires us to keep our mind absorbed in the present moment, noticing the details of our actions. It allows us to receive feelings of joy and happiness because we are present right now.”
